Dr. Clayton Skaggs received is DC degree from Logan College of Chiropractic in 1987. In 1996 he had a career changing meeting with Vladimir Janda MD. He credits his development and achievements to his fortunate opportunities with his teachers and colleagues: Vladimir Janda MD, Karel Lewit MD, Stuart McGill PhD, Craig Liebenson DC and Pavel Kolar PT, PhD.
Dr. Skaggs is the co-founder and director of the Musculoskeletal Pain in Pregnancy Clinics at Barnes Jewish Hospital, Missouri Baptist Medical Center and the Center for Advanced Medicine. These hospital-based clinics have been an ongoing clinical research collaboration between Logan University and Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics for over 9 years. Developed by Dr. Skaggs and Michael Nelson MD, this collaboration has led to numerous publications and presentations and the development of the Musculoskeletal and Obstetric Management Study (MOMS). Dr. Skaggs is currently the Principal Investigator on the largest clinical research grant ever awarded Logan University. The 3 year award is from the Health and Resources and Services Administration to investigate the MOMS.
Dr. Skaggs also has an ongoing collaboration with the Department of Biomechanics at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario. This area of study involves the biomechanics and kinematics of temporomandibular and cervico-cranial disoders. He has also contributed significantly to the clinical research and publications surrounding myofascial therapies in clinical practice.
Dr. Skaggs role as medical director of the Central Institute for Human Performance involves oversight and treatment of high school and college athletes, and performers and professional athletes from the NHL, NFL, MLB, WNBA, WSPA, MISL, US Olympic team and Broadway.
He is on the post-doctoral faculty to 6 additional universities and has lectured throughout the US, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Canada and Europe. Notably, he has been guest lecture to Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Physical Therapy, Department of Obstetrics and Charles University, Department of Rehabilitation, Prague Czech Republic. He is an author in 8 different textbooks on spine and sports rehabilitation. In his spare time he mostly enjoys his family, but also enjoys games of squash, golf and canoeing.
